April 17, 2012

Greetings,

On June 16, 2011, the Manitoba Legislature passed The Accessibility Advisory Council Act. The Act established the Accessibility Advisory Council (Council), giving the Council the authority to make recommendations to the Minister on steps that can be taken to promote equality and remove barriers for Manitobans with disabilities. As a first step, the Council is proposing accessibility legislation that will move us towards a more inclusive society for all Manitobans.

The Council is seeking the public’s views on accessibility legislation and would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a scheduled public consultation. The event will take place on:

Tuesday, May 8, 2012
1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
(Registration is at 12:30 p.m.)
Main Floor, Embassy Rooms A, B and C
Victoria Inn, 1808 Wellington Avenue in Winnipeg

To register, please contact Tracy MacMillan by e-mail at Tracy.MacMillan@gov.mb.ca, or give Tracy a call at (204) 945-7613, by Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

Space is limited and we encourage you to register now. To allow broader participation, the event will be webcast. Further details on the event and online participation will be provided in the weeks ahead. A Discussion Paper for the public consultation on Accessibility Legislation will also be available before the event.

Sign language interpretation, real time captioning, and personal care attendants will be on site. Please let us know if you require other accommodations to participate, and please help us create a scent-free environment.

We hope to see you on May 8th!

Sincerely,

John Wyndels, Policy Analyst
On behalf of: Jim Derksen, Chairperson
Accessibility Advisory Council
