Stronger Measures are Essential for Effective Legislation

Much Better Late than Never

While the official October 21st deadline for public feedback has now passed, we will continue to forward your messages on to Minister Howard.

Dear Minister Jennifer Howard:

I/we resolutely believe that:

  • Strong and effective accessibility-rights legislation is essential to ensure the timely and systemic prevention and removal of barriers to full accessibility.
  • The Manitoba Accessibility Advisory Council’s recommendations for this legislation are an important step forward but they simply are not enough.
  • The legislation must incorporate Barrier-Free Manitoba’s recommendations for:
    • A definite target date by which to achieve full accessibility
    • More effective penalties for non-compliance
    • Inclusive and proactive public sector leadership
    • Greater transparency and accountability
    • Early and meaningful progress on implementation
  • in Manitoba
  • Elsewhere
