You Can Help Make Manitoba Barrier-Free

Everyone can help to make Manitoba barrier-free. Indeed, many Manitobans have already have. That's the only reason we have the new Accessibility Advisory Council Act. And this act did not just squeak though in June 2011 - it had all-party support and was passed through an unanimous vote in the Legislature.

Now we need to build on our success to secure the strong and effective accessibility-rights legislation that will require the timely removal of barriers and the prevention of new ones.

We need to help the Government of Manitoba fulfill it's commitment made back in 2010 to make our province "a leader in promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities."

Here's two ways you can help right away:

Perhaps the most important way you can help is by participating in Barrier-Free Manitoba's campaigns to spread the word and to make sure politicians from all parties and others who hold a lot of power in our lives know how important barrier removal is to persons with disabilities. We'll be posting information on these campaigns on this web site so visit it frequently.

As Margart Mead, the US cultural anthropologist, said:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

Get engaged. Join the thousands (yes, our group is not so small) of thoughtful Manitobans with and without disabilities who have already made thier voice heard through letters, post cards and calls to the Premier, The Minister Responsible for Persons with Disabilities and their MLAs.
