Common Findings

Jun 19, 2020

BFM has conducted and disseminated a review of each Standard produced under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act. In recognition of Manitoba Access Awareness Week, we have produced an overview that provides common findings of the development and enactment of the Standards. The common findings include:

  1. Limited consultation
  2. A lack of leadership
  3. A toothless compliance framework
  4. Failure to promote public awareness and address attitudinal barriers

We continue to call upon the Government of Manitoba to prove itself a leader in Accessibility legislation by developing a public education campaign, informed by persons disabled by barriers, that addresses questions and concerns that the general public may have regarding the AMA and the Accessibility Standards.
