The Province’s Disability Issues Office just released a Consumer Guide that provides easy to read information on what they can and should expect in terms of accessible customer services as a result of the 1st standard that has come into force under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA).

This 1st standard, the Accessible Customer Service Standard, is now the law in Manitoba. Its requirements have applied to all provincial government operations since November 2016. All public sector organizations were newly required to meet the standard starting last month. By November of next year, all other organizations with one or more employees in Manitoba will also be required to have complied with the standard. That’s pretty much every organization in the entire province.

This is one of the many giant steps forward that is the result of the passage and implementation of the AMA.

To mark these important changes, BFM will be posting daily excerpts from the Consumer Guide on our FaceBook page (https://www.facebook.com/barrierfreemb) in the weeks leading up the Christmas day. It’s kind of like our take on an Advent Calendar!
