Judith E. Heumann Coming To Winnipeg December 9th and 10th

Internationally recognized and lifelong disability and civil rights advocate, Judith E. Heumann will be in Winnipeg to help mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

On Wednesday, December 9th, Judith will be making a public presentation on lessons from the 25th Anniversary of The Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, Ms. Yvonne Peters, Chairperson of the Access Advisory Council, will report on the implementation of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA).

Following the formal presentations, there will be a screening of the documentary “Lives Worth Living,” which features Ms. Heumann and the journey to accessibility legislation in the United States.

This event is being organized by the Disabilities Issues Office(DIO) in partnership with the Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities (MLPD).

The following day, Thursday, December 10th, Ms. Heumann will be speaking about the History of the Disability Rights Movement at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR), where her own early activism is featured in a fourth floor museum display.

This presentation will take place on International Human Rights Day. The CMHR will offer free entrance and we will be joined by the Manitoba Human Rights Commission as our co-hosts. Everyone is welcome.
