Manitobans call for a renewed poverty reduction plan

This morning the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) released a comprehensive report calling for a renewed provincial poverty reduction plan.

The specific section on disability supports calls on government to:

  • Develop and implement clear, progressive, mandatory and date-specific standards in all major areas related to accessibility that will apply to public and private sectors, accompanied by a timely and effective process for monitoring and enforcing the standards. [This, of course, is in reference to the full implementation of the Accessibility for Manitobans Act.]
  • Ensure a seamless and lifelong continuum of support services for persons with disabilities.

The section on income security also calls on government to:

  • Establish a separate pension-like basic income support program for Manitobans with severe and prolonged disability.
