Barrier Free Manitoba

Barrier-Free Manitoba just received word on the time and date for the upcoming Standing Committee review of Bill 26: The Accessibility for Manitobans Act.

Bill 26 will be reviewed by the Standing Committee on Social and Economic Development on Tuesday, October 29 in Room 255 of the Legislative Building. If you would like to make a presentation at the hearing, please register in advance by calling the Office of the Clerk at (204) 945-3636.

Following is an excerpt from the email message on this development that was forward to us.

Hello,

This email is to notify you that the Standing Committee on Social and Economic Development is set to meet on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 255 of the Legislative Building to consider various Bills including Bill 26 – The Accessibility for Manitobans Act that you are registered to speak to (meeting notice attached).

Upon arrival at the meeting, you will find a “List of Presenters” posted outside the Committee Room indicating your position on the list.

Registered presenters are not assigned designated speaking times, therefore we strongly advise you to be in attendance at the beginning of the meeting to see where you are on the list, and also so that you are aware of any agreements regarding proceedings the Committee may make. For example, the committee may agree to hear out of town presenters first.

Each presenter will have up to 10 minutes to speak, followed by a possible five minute Question and Answer period with the MLAs.

You are not required to provide written materials to the committee, but if you wish to do so we ask that you bring along 20 copies of any documentation. We can assist you with photocopying if you are able to arrive a half hour before the meeting.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, or if you prefer to not make an oral presentation, you may send a written submission instead to:

Please note that we must receive your written submission before the Committee concludes its consideration of the Bill. This will allow the MLAs to receive their copy of your submission and agree to include it in the Committee Hansard transcript.
