Province Releases Accessible Customer Service Policy

Mar 24, 2017

The Province of Manitoba has released its Accessible Customer Service Policy. This is an important step forward for the government in complying with its obligations under The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA).

However, the Customer Service Stardard Regulation (Word / PDF) had actually set November 1, 2016 as the deadline for government to have developed and publicly released this policy. The posted version of the policy reports that it was signed off by the Clerk of the Executive Council on February 13, 2017. So its was development was two and one-half months late.

The government's Accessible Customer Service Policy is posted on the province's Civil Service Commission web pages at: http://www.gov.mb.ca/csc/publications/accessgovsvc.html (along with the Province's multi-year accessibility plan). It is currently only posted in a PDF format but will be made available in alternative formats upon request.

The Government of Manitoba had been slow off the mark to meet its obligations under the AMA. The good news, based on our most recent experience, is that the government is now working hard to catch up. This is welcomed and is very encouraging given the Progessive Conservative Party's 2016 election commitment to ensure the full and timely implementation of the AMA.

We look forward to providing further updates shortly.
