Registration Deadline Extended / More Info Released

May 01, 2012

Following is the body text of the email Barrier-Free Manitoba sent out to endorsers and subscribers late this afternoon.

More details regarding the Accessibility Advisory Council's public consultation process were finally made available this afternoon. Here are the highlights and relevant links.

The Paper:
The much anticipated discussion paper has been released in electronic formats. You can access downloadable English pdf and French pdf versions and an English html version. Print and Braille versions of the discussion paper accessibility legislation will be available at the consultation event and by request to Tracy MacMillan (phone: 204.945.7613 / email: Tracy.MacMillan@gov.mb.ca).

Registration Deadline:
The deadline for registration to attend the May 8th event in-person has been extended by 48 hours to the end of the day Thursday, May 3rd.

Other Feedback Options:
Those interested in responding to the discussion paper in addition to or outside the May 8th event are invited to send comments via email (accesscouncil@gov.mb.ca) or a web-based feedback form and/or submit written responses to the DIO's office. The discussion paper set out June 5th as the deadline for the submission of these comments/briefs.

Information Requested / Still Pending:
We have requested that the DIO/Council provide information on the agenda/program for the public consultation event as soon as possible. This information will help persons who have yet to registered assess whether attending makes sense for them. It will also help people prepare to participate and/or, at the very least, know what to expect.

Details on participation through webcast arrangements is still to be made available.

Our Next Steps:

Barrier-Free Manitoba has committed to sharing a thoughtful response with endorsers and subscribers before next week's consultation event. We will do our level best to deliver but time is not on our side.

We expect that we will also be submitting a more complete written brief in response to the discussion paper thereafter. But our immediate priority is to prepare and support others in preparing for the May 8th public event.

Thank you for your ongoing interest and support.
