Registration Deadline Looming / Details Still Missing

Apr 30, 2012

Yesterday, in the absence of information on the public consultation event, Barrier-Free Manitoba sent the following email message out to groups and individuals which/who have endorsed the call for legilsation, as well as persons registered on our subscribers service.

This Tuesday (May 1st) is the deadline for registering for the Accessibility Advisory Council's (AAC) public consultation session to be held on May 8th.

1:00 to 4:00 pm
Main Floor, Embassy Rooms A, B and C
Victoria Inn, 1808 Wellington Avenue, Winnipeg

While it is wonderful that the AAC is wanting to consult with persons with disabilities and the broader public, Barrier-Free Manitoba, like others, is still waiting for the promised discussion paper. We also don't have any details yet on what this session will look like.

We understand that deciding to accept or decline the invitation is pretty difficult without this information. Preparing to participate, assuming that the information does become available in the next few days, poses further challenges.

Here's what we are suggesting.

The Invite:
If you have yet to register and might like to attend, then consider registering by the end of the day Tuesday (May 1st). You can do this by contacting Tracy Macmillan at the Province's Disability Issues Office (telephone: 204.945.7613 / email: Tracy.MacMillan@gov.mb.ca).

The Information:
Barrier-Free Manitoba will send out details related to the event and the discussion paper as soon as these become available. We will also review and prepare a thoughtful response to the discussion paper that we will share ASAP. This may help you and others you know prepare for the event.

The Webcast:
If you can't attend or just don't feel comfortable doing so, consider participating via the promised webcast. As with the event itself, information on this option has yet to be made available. We will pass on the details as soon as they are made public.

Thank you for your continued support.
