ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING
MONDAY, JANUARY 16, 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M.

The Agenda, Summary of Discussions, and Minutes of the Meeting of December of 12 were approved by all members without changes.
It was suggested that a committee be developed to discuss the Manitoba Human Right Code (HRC) and the relationship between the Code and accessibility legislation in the province. The HRC takes precedence over all other legislation in the province.
Several members of the Council prepared lists of priority areas for greater accessibility, as identified by their constituents. Customer service and transportation would be two of the broader themes. A number of members also stated the need for greater access to public-funded services, such as public access to computers. An aggregated list of frequently mentioned barriers and accessibility issues will be prepared for review by the Council at the next meeting.
A workplan schedule was agreed upon, covering the next five meetings. At these meetings, details of substantive accessibility legislation will be discussed. The results of these discussions will form the basis of a draft report of recommendations to the Minister responsible for Persons with Disabilities.
The Council will also prepare a discussion paper that will act as a starting point for public consultations. Consultations will be planned for the coming months. Advanced notice and further details will be provided on the Accessibility Advisory Council website.
An Executive Working Group has been established to determine issues that needed further discussion and areas in the Working Document that required further exploration. They will report back to the Council on proposed courses of action.
