Barriers in Manitoba
At the Bring Down the Walls Campaign Launch on 03 December 2008, over 100 Manitoba present identified some of the barriers they face.
Attitudinal Barriers

- Handi-Transit doesn't guarantee rides to work and home again for people with disabilities unless they are making minimum wage or more
- Transportation geared towards the needs of the individual but most importantly a source of transportation.
- Handi-transit refuses to guarantee rides to work and home for people with disabilities unless they are making minimum wage or more
- Handi-transit being phased out for individuals based on priorities but not individual priorities; i.e.: going to work, vs. going to doctor's appt.; result: Individuals do not have transportation to and from services.

- Many organizations, groups, businesses, etc. are not aware of the difficulties that face those who are hard of hearing and don't make accommodations to help these people to get along in their environments
- People with autism/asperger do not get the supports they need because the criteria for supports many times are so narrow. IQ for instance can prevent a person from getting support they fall in the cracks.
- Making disability a priority issue for government
- Lack of legal funding/legislative/constitutional authority for programs/service accessibility for First Nations with disabilities living on reserve.
- NO CONTINUITY
- Even in sports: Example, swimming, IQ is the main criteria and not your disabilities for mental.
- Continued funding & policy cuts/changes to non-insured health benefits from Health Canada for First Nations.
- Establishing Family Friendly policies that act as incentive instead disincentives.
- Federal/provincial jurisdictional disputes towards responsibility for First Nations
